A Review of: Ibn Sīnā (Avicenna). Iscelenie. Teologija [The Cure. The Theology]. 2 vols. Moscow: “Sadra” publ., 2024 (Russian Translation)

Abstract

The reviewer represents monumental Russian translation of “Theology” from al-Šifāʼ by Ibn Sīnā, carried out by the Russian orientalist and medievalist Tawfik Ibrahim. According to the author, Ibrahim has done laborious work to develop a qualitatively new terminological apparatus that facilitates a more correct transmission of original concepts into Russian. The specialist also notes Ibrahim’s contribution to philosophical Arabic studies of the 20^th –21^st centuries, — in particular, a number of previously published translations of prominent treatises by Avicenna and al-Fārābī. In addition, this review specifies the controversial nature of edition’s transliteration system.
